In life, we are either getting out of a storm, about to go in one, or already in it; I was going through one and it was a hurricane. I sat around the table, mentally and spiritually distraught and on the verge of breaking down.
“Why, God? Why am I in this position? Since I met you, I’ve done my best to be a good person. I know I am not perfect but I thought I was loved by you. Don’t I deserve to be treated like a decent human being? Why is it so hard?"
It felt as if I was lower than dirt. I began to accept the fact that it would be easier to live with the Lord in Heaven than to struggle here on Earth. My internal pain overshadowed the pain of knowing others would mourn.
A good friend of mine was with me to keep me company and responded with something that sparked the idea for Armor of God apparel.
“The devil is a liar. How can you be a loser if God chose you by name? God is the mightiest warrior, and he chose you to be a part of his army. Imagine, physically picking up your Helmet of Salvation…” as he opened his fist, grabbed an imaginary helmet next to him and placed it on his head. “….Your Breastplate of Righteousness,” he continued, strapping his imaginary armor around his torso. “The battle is not of flesh and blood but a spiritual battle and you are being attacked. God needs us and He needs you. Do not let the devil win this battle; he has already lost the war so he's going to try and take any victory he can.”
That hit me like a ton of bricks. I am wearing God’s armor! And when you wear his armor, it is time to fight. It took a while, but I was able to overcome my own spiritual battle. There are so many others right now that are going through similar battles, and I realized at that moment, we need the Armor of God.
The devil knows how to torment you but remember: he is a liar and a thief. He will manipulate you to think wrongfully of yourself. Your struggles, no matter how big or how small you play them out to be, are valid and not something that should be ignored. What you are going through matters.
Don't Give Up! I'll see you on the Battlefield, Warrior.
